Sufferah's Choice Recordings is a Bristol label run by DJ Stryda and Digistep. Named after Stryda's renowned roots and dub radio show, it has been a vehicle for Dubkasm's music since 2003 and is known for its authentic yet innovative sounds and philosophy. Dubkasm have collaborated with many of the UK's greats including cult legends such as Aba Shanti-I, Iration Steppas, Levi Roots and Dub Judah. Their 2009 debut album 'Transform I' saw the duo incorporate Brazilian instrumentation and vocals, the result of many years of work carried out between the musical hubs of their hometown Bristol and Brazil, where Digistep lived for five years. 'Transform I' was later remixed in its entirity for CD release in 2010 by 10 of Bristol's top-ranked bass-centric producers, and this EP is the fourth limited press vinyl to be drawn from that set Revising and re-interpreting Dubkasm's orthodox roots music in a contemporary club setting, Pinch and Headhunter offer two deeply spiritual pieces, each a brilliant response to the original. Drawing strength from the drum, Pinch brings the rhythm to the fore on his mix of 'From The Foundation', and introduces a stripped, bone-shaking militant b-line detonation that heads into a deep exploration of astral planes, with flute and exquisite Detroit-styled synths, making for a killer steppers mood piece that remains militant throughout. Headhunter's restrained yet militant 'Foundational Dub' re-rub is a refined and rare outing at this reduced tempo for the man also known as Addison Groove. Downbeat and meditating on inner space before seeming to slow to a heartbeat, the track builds and filters in again to a roving bass flute and woodblock-led discomix roller, drawing to a resounding conclusion.
