| With their label debut by False Prophet still a fresh fixture in many discerning boxes and winning support from selectors such as Magda, Appleblim, Brendon Moeller, Slam, and Laurent Garnier, recently-minted London imprint Take launch right back into action return with this second release, courtesy of newcomer James Fox, with a prestige remix from Hessle Audio boss Ramadanman on the flip. The original cut starts with a dry, pared-down 4/4 kick, weaving vocal snippets and found sounds into the sonic field before downpitched 808 bass and lovingly-processed stabs take turns to push things along. Across seven minutes, the track gracefully unfurls heady rolling beats and lush sweeping strings for an hypnotic interpretation of deep Detroit-esque house placed in a contemporary bass-emphatic setting. Ramadanman's minimalist refix increases the tempo and filters James' synth work over a rattling and spluttering 2-step beat, ramping up and reeling in the tension before an extended drop fades out the beats to provoke a startling shift in mood. |
