| Over the past decade, noted techno stalwart Sasu Ripatti, better known as Vladislav Delay, has released a series of sonically exploratory and innovative albums and singles under his Luomo, Uusitalo (and other) guises, including his current stint as an integral part of the Moritz von Oswald Trio, working with labels such as Chain Reaction, Force Tracks, Mille Plateaux, Staubgold, and Leaf. Slightly overlooked in all that shuffle over the years was one of his earliest projects; Sistol, recorded for Phthalo Records in 1999. Ripatti has now resurrected the Sistol name and announced the release of an all-new album - 'On The Bright Side', issued by Halo Cyan, a new dance-oriented subsidiary label of Phthalo - which has already been rated by the likes of Resident Advisor and Pitchfork as comprising some of Ripatti's most propulsively energetic material of the past few years. From that album comes this second limited edition vinyl-only EP. Scuba and FaltyDL invest the originals of 'On The Bright Side' and 'Hospital Husband' with their sense of the current landscape of dubstep and so-called "purple" maneuverings, respectively...and neither disappoints. On the flip, Brooklyn's synth warlord Oneohtrix Point Never examines 'Funseeker' and adds a rich layer of sprinklingly light ambience atop the original. Similarly, Kompakt's Walls apply a pensively brooding twist to 'A Better Shore'. The initial pressing of 'On The Brighter Side Vol 2 EP' is limited to 800 copies on heavyweight 180g vinyl, in full colour jacket with printed inner sleeve. |
