Description of AnD Algorythmic Love EP

Manchester duo AnD have previously released a split 12" with 16 Bit on Mindset in 2009, the second 12" on Black Sun Records that came out recently, and a couple of 12"s on Horizontal Ground. Their tracks span a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno, but across different tempos, emphasis and moods, with elements of dubstep also prominent, but neatly avoiding the crossover cliches that might come to mind. Three new tracks appear on this EP, moving between 130 and 135 bpm. 'Algorythmic Love' is probably the most dancefloor orientated of the three. A percussive monster with a huge kick drum, but one that doesn't work around the 4/4 template. The lush chords that creep in towards the end of the tune bring out a depth that's alluded to but never revealed fully in the first half. 'Brother From Another Mother' feels a lot slower but is around the same speed. The drums are staccato and restrained with perfect placement of hits around some ethereal delay-heavy melody and huge bass. 'Swing Me' refocuses on the dancefloor but rather than using prominent drums to that end it employs twisting synth melodies to generate pace and energy. Tom Dicicco is a Techno producer also based in Manchester. His 'Late Night Dub' of 'Brother From Another Mother' turns the tune into a 124 bpm techno track, powered by some very prominent hi-hat work and laced with beautiful delay-riddled melody. Sounding like a fusion of dub techno and house, it compliments the original tracks on the EP perfectly.

Artist:Asusa
Title:No Kya
Label:Project Squared
The fourth release on the Project Squared label marks our first year in existence. Asusu, the artist who graced the first Project Squared 12" a year ago, returns with "No Kya", a 144bpm track of introspective, impeccable sound design, a tightly controlled swung beat reminiscent of Garage and a deep bass line. The track follows in the vein of Asusu's previous 12" releases on Project Squared and Immerse Records (and his forthcoming release on Orca Recordings), whilst pushing his sound into a new, more sedate area. The B side features a remix of "No Kya" by F, a producer who has created a strong reputation for himself in just 2 years of releasing music on 7even Recordings. He has worked with Headhunter, has remixed Jus Wan and has been remixed by Ramadanman and Untold. His album "Energy Distortion" is one of the highlights of 2010 so far. F remixes "No Kya" into a 140bpm club tune. The drums switch between 4/4 and swung patterns, accompanied by rattling percussion and huge sub bass. Dance floor tested with success by Skratch at Sub:stance, Berghain, this track finishes off a superbly balanced release that caters both for intense headphone listening and the peak time dance floor. Mastered at Optimum, Bristol, United Kingdom.
