D.O.K. - Golden Axe EP / 12"
Hardrive, the brand new label launched by Grime Legend Terror Danjah, kicking off with three tracks from his long time collaborator, the ever elusive D.O.K. Choosing to only emerge with Terror in the past year with joint efforts on Hyperdub ('Hysteria', 'Pro Plus'), Planet Mu ('Code Morse') and Butterz ('Sidechain Remix'), D.O.K. finally breaks out for his first solo recordings since writing classics for the After Shock label. Only to be found on this 12", 'Missing Step' is a dramatic reworking of a longtime club vocal anthem, which sits at that perfect point between skippy grime and dubstep wobble. 'Missing Step' has already seen high profile support from Mistajam (BBC Radio 1), Swindle (1xtra), and has become a favourite amongst the Rinse FM crew such as Elijah & Skilliam. 'Golden Axe' is a salutation to the Sega Mega Drive classic computer game, in which D.O.K gives his old skool presets a 2010 work out, including his signitature laughter effect, which will be familar to anyone who loved the classic Sidewinder tape packs. On closing track 'Slip Stream', the obvious comparisons are with Joker, Guido and Gemmy's Bristolian synth work-outs, but it retains that pirate radio style gritty edge which grime MCs eat up, and people demand reloads for in raves across the country.
