After debuting earlier this year with the 'Plastic World' album, BNJMN returns to Rush Hour with his second long player. On 'Black Square', he evolves into a more fluid production style, largely by allowing more space into his music. By keeping his drums more sparse and light, his music takes even more of a serene, futuristic quality. A modern electronic classic, we dare to say. Braindance, anybody? Although a quick comparison is made between his music and that of early 90s UK electronica, BNJMN states that he is trying to stay current and not be influenced by the past, rather making music which is all about the moment. The 23 year old is also not too bothered about being connected to what else is going on in the musical world. Instead, he prefers to let himself be inspired by his surroundings of the sea and countryside on the south coast of England, something that definitely comes out in his music.

Coinciding with the third anniversary of their Berghain residency, the Leisure System collective from Berlin comes with the second release of their newly found label. While the label's debut was an atmospheric and soulful take on UK-influenced electronic dance music by Russian producer Pixelord, this next offering crosses the ocean and comes with a simple agenda : to prove the soundtrack for a rave of epic proportions. Responsible for the bass assault this time is San Franciso based producer Eprom. After releases on labels like Warp and Rwina, and with one of the biggest tunes of 2010 ('Shoplifter') in his books, Eprom graces Leisure System with nothing less than full peak time anthems. A-side 'Feldspar' builds up a nearly unendurable tension throughout its intro, leaving the traditional trails of simple and mix-friendly build-ups and exploding into a cathartic tempest of screaming synths and bass. 'Feldspar' is like a 140 BPM wrecking ball, purpose-built for rewinds and dancefloor freak-outs. The flipside 'Psycho' brings the speed down, but keeps up with the raw energy. It plays around with a straight-forward 808-driven hip hop beat, a bouncing '80s electro bassline and a rough 8-bit melody, making it sound like something that a modern-day Alan Howarth could have written, if part of Snake Plissken's mission would have been to rave. Instead of varying the same idea over two sides of vinyl, or being a functional (and short-lived in the memory) DJ tool, Eprom uses this 12" to show different and unique sides of his production gifts. It's also proof that the minds behind the Leisure System collective are ever eager to push back the boundries of rave music in the 21st Century, while keeping the spirit of traditional dance music labels alive.

'Face the Sun' harks back to the classic dubstep sound of rolling beats and bass clearly marking him as a producer to watch, travelling a narrow path between light and dark, mellow and fierce as his beats and bass will prove time and time again. Australia-based 3rdeye's 'Yonaguni Dreams' entwines sweet ethereal beauty with hard pulsating aggression. His detailed productions point to a wide range of influences - the lush chords and crackles of dubtechno, the atmospherics and melody of deep drum and bass, to the stark minimalism and enveloping sub bass of early dubstep. This is a mere glimpse in to the deep hypnotic sonic collages still to come from this truly original bass music wizard. Aeon is a Croation bass music producer who has one foot firmly on the accelerator. As an introduction of the sounds sweeping across the Adriatic Sea, 'Different Quotes' brings a different vibe to the label. Keeping things musically inclined with sweet vocals, lush pads, stuttering percussion, weighty drums and pulsing bassline, Aeon brings the funk representing the diversity of the Area sound to the fullest. Safire is an Australian producer who has been energizing the masses with his sets of deep and tech funk DnB and dubstep for many years. His 'Disperse' showcases a more tech-influenced side to dubstep with a dense amalgamation of sound hitting on elements from all artists featured on Area Recordings. Safire's music breathes much needed fresh air, showing that energy and aggression can be created with style, musicality and big production values often overlooked by the masses. Coming from the home of Area Recordings, Krytikal is a Birmingham based dubstep producer whose unique productions have an amazing sense of calm hidden amidst his deep tribal rhythms. 'Selfish Ways' is a stunning introduction to his work, bringing different meaning and context whenever it is played. Equally at home smashing up a dance floor as it is relaxing to over morning coffee, is tracks fully represent deep bass music. The finale of this musical revue comes from the dynamic duo that is Fused Forces. Showcasing a mellower side to their production style, 'Ocean Dawn' brings a soulful ambience with the sound of crashing waves and weighty drums building into and gut rumbling bass. RSD's solo work is regarded as being just as significant and he has released on well respected labels such as Punch-Drunk, Earwax and Tectonic. His contribution to 'Get Up' is deep, energetic and driven by a trademark, chest-rattling RSD bass line. Alpha Steppa, child protege of Alpha and Omega, debuted in 2010 with a bang. He launched Steppas Records in style, offering up fresh dubs and soundsystem mixes by his mentors, as well as one of the final releases by titan of the reggae scene, the late Gregory Isaacs. Alpha Steppa produces dubstep that is aware of it's roots heritage and works to integrate that into some of the most innovative dubs being made today. Currently based in Eastern Asia, he has begun integrating an authentic oriental sound into the dubstep vibe, showcased in the two tracks he contributes here - a deep, sub-heavy remix offset by a crisp dub version.

Following the string of dubs that have acccompanied Necessary Mayhem releases in the last couple of years, one of the questions most frequently asked of the label is,"When's the dub album coming out?". This 12" is the first step towards that target, with four heavyweight Dubstrumentals from Da Grynch. First up is 'Joker Dub' taken from the 'Joker Smoker' riddim series, which featured the hit single of the same name by European reggae star Ziggi. This instrumental dub is a straight mix for the MCs in the dance to rap over. Next is 'Up There Dub' taken from a forthcoming tune that features JC Lodge on vocals. This hypnotic dub will create 'nuff havoc for your bass bins. The third track is a dub cut of one of Necessary Mayhem's biggest releases to date, 'August Town' by Etana. With the aid of David Rodigan who championed the original tune, 'August Dub' is one of the label's most requested and sought-after tracks. Last but not least is 'Monk Dub', a revised re-cut mix of 'Shaolin Temple', a tune originally produced by Sly & Robbie in the '70s. Kanji Kinetic's future bass sounds have been causing shockwaves at parties worldwide. Mixing up beats from bassline & 4 4, dubstep and oldskool breakbeat hardcore like no-one else can, he has found support from heavyweights such as Mary Anne Hobbs and Tayo in the UK, and Drop The Lime and Starkey in the US. With a number of well-received releases on respected labels, his production skills are in high demand with a slew of high-profile remixes about to emerge, as well as brand new original material to destroy the party unlike anything before. For Horror Boogie, he has blessed us with "Citizens Unite", a raw, nasty bassquake, which has been obliterating dancefloors for some time now with its masterful drum programming, insane bass and THAT drum roll. THIS is what drumstep should sound like. Fedka the Irritant is probably best known as the trombonist in the excellent band Pest (Ninja Tune), alongside Ben Pest (Panic Bridge, Victim, Bonus Round). He's also a seriously original and versatile producer in his own right. He has released on Panic Bridge, alongside the other Pest members and his live "trombone techno" sets are something to behold. "Watch Them Get Killed" is wonky techno at its finest. Its tight drums, chopped up hip-hop vocals and the beautifully deranged, yet ferociously funky melody make this track seriously addictive. Expect to hear a lot more from this man on Horror Boogie Records in the not-too-distant future. Michael Forshaw has smashed many a rave with his live onslaught of fucked up electro, techno, rave and booty. He has released on many labels over the years such as Penalty, Miditonal, Flaw, his own imprint Chan 'n' Mikes and most recently, Coin Operated. "Cookietag McStarrwerk" is a live, mashed up, sample-laden (namely the classic "Whoomp! There it is" vocal) rave/breaks/booty monster and has been a staple of his recent live sets. Last and certainly not least, is the mighty Subhead. As a solo artist, Jason Leach has released on his own Death to Vinyl, Fix UK and Subhead imprints, alongside his work for Mercurochrome, Input Output Inc. and Don't. In total he has released well over 100 records, having also been involved in several notable collaborations. "Stefan Wolfe" is a driving, peak-time, techno juggernaut. Its atmospheric beginning hypnotises you into a false sense of security, before it hits you with a dose of raw energy - crunchy hi-hats, solid kicks and a funky-ass bassline, leading on to a finale of full-blown squelchy wrongness.

Moving towards the end of the year and it's time for a temperature change as Critical gets ice cold with the talents of D&B scene newcomer, Foreign Concept. Although a relatively fresh face Foreign Concept has already made quite a name for himself have signed tunes to the likes of Samurai, Ingredients, Shogun and Commercial Suicide. Here Kasra picks possibly the cream of the crop with a release that has been hitting clubs hard all over for the past few months. Sometimes the only answer is 'Mob Justice'. A staggered break, industrial fx and drifting pads open it up with the by now familiar to most 'hang from the gallows' vocal that signals the drop into some enormous droning sub-bass with twisted fills and oldskool amen edits. Cuts deep in the mix on any worthy sound system; a Critical anthem for all the Fabric regulars. Flipping over and label boss Kasra joins him in the studio for a joint venture with devastatingly good consequences. Kicking off with a more regular two-step break, piano chords and old soul vox 'Show You' rolls into a bouncing stepper with a surging b-line that keeps things moving with pace. One for the marching crew and another good sign of Kasra's own production progress. Definitely much for to come from in the future from Foreign Concept.

The first release from Il Bosco aka Christian Wood aka Woody aka Crowhead aka Nudge ! A man of many names he's been part of the make up of Manchester club land for many years. He was resident dj at Fat City's infamous Friends and Family night & a recording artist for Grand Central and Aim's Atic Records during the noughties. After a couple of years hiatus he's back out of the studio with four tracks and taking a new direction. The tempo is up and a mutation of old school rave, italo, house and electro is in the offing.

'Mearsk' get things rolling with a crisp break beat and swollen bass before riding on an italo-house piano riff and four to the floor beats. Add a deftly flipped vocal sample and the rave is already bubbling. Drop into 'Norea Son' for some twisted electronic frolicking with moog basslines, arpeggiated synths, warm keys and hands in the air vocal drops all mixed to a climactic degree.

Turn over and get deep in the dubbed out in the lo-fi italo of 'Ramblings Of A Madman'. Electro rhythms meet insistent moog riffs whilst being worked by a glassy eyed ghostly MC. End the session with 'Frost'. Wallow on the downbeat with a cinematic-esque heavily sedated groove, all analogized melodies and twinkling keys. Think 'The Enforcer' on ketamine and you're half way there.

Fryer managed to get to the tapes which amazingly were still intact, so we went to work and transferred them at half-speed for a truly explosive sound!

Virgil and Nick Hirsch from The Killer Meters take the track into driving heavy deep funk rock territory. A couple of clean breaks are embellished with big build ups and multi instrumental frenzy. We were all in the studio for this one and its one of the most intense studio sessions we've ever done.

Cosmic Exotica: This is Virgil's homage to rare as hens teeth Asian Psych Disco breaks. He can imagine Finders Keepers or Now Again records re-issuing this strange but break heavy offering. Think of a Chinese Big Band dropping this in the early 70's for some Grind-House biker movie drug scene that gets a bit lary as a massive fight breaks out! Uptempo breaks for the dancefloor!

Having released their last album nearly four years ago to great acclaim from music media, hip-hoppers and music heads worldwide, Fretless emerge once again with an album of depth and class featuring some of the best vocalists and beat creators from Australian shores, including Will Styles, MC Shureshock, Funkin Irie, Kween G from Killa Queens, Hau from Koolism, Jimi Polar, Jimi A, the Versionaries, Def Wish Cast and brothers in beats from the U.S.A., Q-Dup Foundation.

Since the release of their self titled album late in '07, Fretless have toured, played festivals and produced an array of remixes for crews all over the planet. Mainman Mark Walton has also taken time out to indulge in his other favourite passion, deep sea diving from the North to South Pacific Oceans.

Over the last two years, Fretless have been recording ideas for their new album entitled 'For Your Thighs Only' with the last 12 months bringing on the final focus and planning to complete the release. In addition, and prior to the album release, there will also be a 12' vinyl release featuring two tracks 'Let Go The Past' and 'S.O.S.' with a remix of each produced by Will Styles and Omegaman respectively.
