Title:Non Stop Funk EP
Label:Funk Weapons
Rory Hoy delivers a well rounded EP to the Funk Weapons label. Starting off with 'La Lyrica 2011' which takes on Freddy Fresh's classic tune and updates with a few surprise twists and turns.

Next up we have 'Non-Stop' which is a solid ghetto-funk tune, complete with wonky bass and really hard hitting drums. On the Flip we start out with 'Bad Ass'; which is another ghetto-funk tune this time using a more solid sine wave bass and some up-front funky horn blasts and that awesome refrain 'bad ass is as bad ass does'.

Next up Rockmaster Rus B takes 'Bad Ass' up a few rave levels and adds in some serious wobble to make the whole thing jump. Finally we Rory drops 'Breakdown in Paris' which is a bit of a house meets breaks type tune, with a killer breakdown which will have you top rockin' deep into the night.

Title:The Claydon Break / Cosmic Exotica
Label:Breakin Bread
More drums! Beats, breaks, rolls, all live, no loops. Breakin Bread continue their specialist Drums Series of 7"s with Mark Claydon joining Virgil Howe for 2 killer beat heavy tracks. Breaks for the future!

Breakin Bread is rooted in hip hop and all things related to hip hop so tracks with heavy drums and breakbeats are staples of the output of the label and the turntables of the clubs. The Drums Series features drummers that the Breakin Bread Crew have got to know since they launched their club night thirteen years ago.

The Claydon Break: This time round the guys take it back to more of an original 70s funk band sound. Mark Claydon underpins the track with a steady uptempo breaqk. Virgil and Nick Hirsch from The Killer Meters take the track into driving heavy deep funk rock territory. A couple of clean breaks are embellished with big build ups and multi instrumental frenzy. We were all in the studio for this one and its one of the most intense studio sessions we've ever done.

Cosmic Exotica: This is Virgil's homage to rare as hens teeth Asian Psych Disco breaks. He can imagine Finders Keepers or Now Again records re-issuing this strange but break heavy offering. Think of a Chinese Big Band dropping this in the early 70's for some Grind-House biker movie drug scene that gets a bit lary as a massive fight breaks out! Uptempo breaks for the dancefloor!
Artist:Sonny Rhodes / The Right Kind
Title:You Better Stop / My Money Is Funny
Label:Fryers
Is it Funk? Soul? Mod? RnB? Yes and no and yes again, it's a bit of everything! Sonny Rhodes' 'You Better Stop' is an alround post-deepfunk/soul crossover club dancer, good sounding for everyone. First spun on the European cross-genre funk n' soul scenes by UK DJs like Ian Wright and Fryer, now getting picked up on the UK Northern scene which is now leaving the old stompers behind and is embracing the bouncing rhythms of funk. Fryer managed to get to the tapes which amazingly were still intact, so we went to work and transferred them at half-speed for a truly explosive sound!

On the flip we have another very cool instrumental track from the same period. Labelmates "The Right Kind" whip up a funky R&B stormer with a slight moddy edge which never goes amiss for the '60s R&B and New Breed lovers. Not to be overlooked!
Artist:S.M.O.V
Title:Cumin Home
Label:Wack Records

Cumin Home is a fine example of his skills put back to back with some heavy S.M.O.V beats and slamming production.

On the flip we see Suonho alias Tommaso Beracardocco Italian DJ/ Producer and all round Knob twiddler, flips a cosmic space 60's theme tune into a pure breakbeat bomb, this simply can't fail to win!

This party platter features more of the sounds and artists that have been dropped by Nickodemus and friends on the big Funktion One sound-system over the last eight years! Things kick off with Mr.Scruff's infamous 'Pickled Spider', a ripping dubstepper of track with huge wobbly bass and delayed female vocals urging all dancers to the floor. Next up is 'Dub For Mali' by San Fran's own Pleasuremaker (of the Afrolicious crew), featuring Yacouba Diarra on vocals and Thievery Corporation's Rob Garza weighing in on some extra production. To the flip, SUMO's 'Zwakalani' could be one of the party's most heavily spun tunes since it was released five years ago, with it's booming drums, guitar licks, and uplifting vocals. Clocking in last on the 12" is 'Lovesick' by T.O.T.H. family-friend Mariella, remixed into a deep boogie-house vibe with heavy bass for the clubs by Mark De-Clive Lowe.

Penny" is the one for all you summertime lovers, bringing you the perfect soundtrack for the best time of the year. "Get it on now feat. MC Fava" comes with the voice of Germanys most wanted DnB MC alongside a big bassline and straight punching drums. Feel the mixture of house and breaks! And last but not least, "Is it true feat. Title:Funky Town

After years of huge success with solid quality releases - yet mostly mashups and remixes for respected labels and musicians of the funky breaks scene - CMC&Silenta now take the next step with their latest tune "Funky Town". This funky good mood summer track is the first release of their forthcoming album. It can be understood as an indicator of what you can further expect to be released by the duo on CMC's label Roca Records.

"Funky town" was made for all you guys out there who love to shake their butts to soulful, honest and pure funk music. Contrary to previous tracks they recorded everything live, and invited Cotonou (Benin)-based Rapstar Penny to join them. Pimped up with funky guitars and Bongos, accompanied with this recognisable whistle, this tune moves masses whenever it starts to play. To round up the release of this cracker, CMC&Silenta won Nick Thayer for an amazing ghettofunk anthem, Slynk repacked the track with a brass hook to bring back the late 60s funk feeling. The last remix on this 12 inch is a nice afro beat remix by Zamali, so you've got something for everyone on this Roca's first Single Release of CMC&Silenta. Title:Rhythm Method EP
Label:Bombstrikes Records
Following hot on the heels of the outstanding Pimpsoul ep, Bombstrikes once again maintain their scene leading formula. This time out it's the turn of Nick Thayer to deliver the dancefloor goodies. In a style very much his own, Nick raises the bar even higher with this incredibly strong three-track ep.

There is no messing about on this EP "Do You Want more" on the A side hits hard. With vocal hooks and guitars kicking the track off in fine style before the almighty lead synth hits with guaranteed head nodding approval. For our money this is an absolute monster. Over on the flip, first up is "Rhythm Method" which brings Nick's trademark swing and movement to the proceedings. Vocals play perfectly with the synth and horn riffs to ensure plenty of dancefloor ass shaking will follow. Rounding things off nicely is the bass heavy groover "Ladies Love Cool Jams" which is so devastatingly executed it is bound to hit the right spots.

Following on from a few well received 7"s last year Omas hooks up with long time collaborator Aver (aka Joey Average) for his new single. Aver himself is well at home behind the boards as beatmaker for Manc hip-hop crew The Natural Curriculum who are known for regularly tearing up stages across the North-West with their excellent live shows.

Here they turn their hands to an uptempo funk rock workout where funky guitar licks collide with heavy drums and spoken word cuts. With its expertly chopped drum breaks and fills the track comes across like a dusty library music faceoff between The Meters, Rare Earth and Rjd2!

On the flip My First Moth regular DJ Mischief is on remix duties, reworking a few choice elements of the original into a tasty Latin hip-hop groover. Syncopated double bass and Latin percussion builds up towards big anthemic horn stabs which set the track off into proper club banger territory!

Title:Perpetual Lotion EP
Label:Freshly Squeezed
Jem Stone's unique take on any genre is always compelling and highly individual. He made an impressive and memorable contribution to the early days of electro swing with the break-beat, dance-floor-filling flavors of his debut release on Freshly Squeezed, the Electric Circus EP (2010).

Now Jem returns with a perfectly timed and unexpectedly fresh twist on a sound that has sometimes, in less skilled hands, become formulaic in it's swift rise. The Perpetual Lotion EP raises the bar once again and opens up many new possibilities. This record will change the future direction of electro swing!

Here the 1920s and 30s samples aren't just backed by a house beat, but given such a distorting twist the whole has become something else entirely. The EP is slower and darker than before with brooding bass and deeper production that adds a vital contemporary edge.

As before, look out for the accompanying animations on YouTube - www.youtube.com/jemstonemusic - and in particular Jem's full-length album later in 2011.

Title:Funky Pete Parts 1 & 2
Label:Tramp Recods
Guitar Ray, whose actual name was Raymond Washington, recorded just over half a dozen 45RPM singles in New Orleans from the late 1950s to 1968. Four of those had been released on Hot Line Records out of New Orleans, which was a subsidiary of Nola Records. Wardell Quezergue, one of the principals of the companies, did most of the production and arranging for them - as shown on the label: "Arr by Wardell."

Released in around 1967, the singer's own Funky Pete appeared on the third of Washington's four singles for Hot Line. It was a straight-ahead dancer that emphasized the rhythmic elements of the song, all locked into a tight, spring-loaded, high energy groove, probably propelled by el supremo beat-man, Smokey Johnson. The drum and vocal intro that Quezergue set up pulls you right into the action; then the horns come in and push the groove to maximum heights.

As with all re-issues on Tramp it comes with excellent sound quality and original label artwork too. Because Funky Pete Pt.1 also appears on the Feeling Nice compilation (TRCD/LP-9012) they did a strictly limited press run of 111 hand-numbered copies on the Hot Line issue. Be Quick!

Title:Disparate EP
Label:Jazz&Milk
Kidboy is an upcoming producer and versatile musician based in Granada who is always searching for a balance between organic and electronic sounds. On his debut EP he teams up with vocalists such as Ohmega Watts, BluRum13 and Julio Cesar Rodriguez and a bunch of excellent jazz musicians. Bored by too many monotonous releases out there Kidboy wanted to present a diverse EP ? with percussive Broken Beats, heavy basslines sounds and Latin instrumentation on the one hand and very mellow and jazzy Hip Hop tracks on the other!

The EP starts off with Yo Me Voy De Aqui a progressive dj-tune filled with organic latin samples and an enormous sub bassline ? one truly for the dancefloor! Also on the latin tip, Chang?? De Manteca features cuban singer Julio Cesar Rodriguez on vocals and percussion, Cesar's Salad pianist Jo Junghanss on keys and Andrew Linch on sax on top of an energetic Broken Beat.

Eventually Kidboy takes you back into the 90's ? the golden era of Hip Hop ? with organic beats, jazz driven instrumentation and sophisticated rapping. The Culture features Ohmega Watts, a virtuoso rapper from the States who has released on Ubiquity and already worked with well-known acts such as Quantic, The Bamboos or Breakestra. A Moment To Think presents BluRum13, known for his project One Self with DJ Vadim and Yarah Bravo, who came to Granada to collaborate with Kidboy.

Title:Plastic Romance
Label:Love Monk
Dancing with tears in your eyes on the remixes of "Plastic Romance", one of the ace tracks off of "What About The Magnetic Fields?", Space Ranger's debut album on Lovemonk.

The German outfit returns with it fourth single on Lovemonk, the wonderful "Plastic Romance" featuring the chilly vocals of Captn K, who can also be heard on previous single "Nightmoves". Bonar Bradberry throws some beef on the barbie and turns the slo-mo disco original into a ultra-funky dancefloor stormer, while the fabulous Rimshooters, a.k.a. Massimiliano Pagliara and Rotciv, speed it up and take it back to the eighties.

Motorcity Drum Ensemble shift into fifth gear as well and undress the tune while they're at it, leaving Captn K sounding even chillier. Groove Attack & Innervisions hero Marcus Worgull liked the MCDE remix so much, he decided to do his own edit of it. A fabulous package if ever there was one.

Title:It's The Trip
Label:Project Moon Circle
"No hay banda!" ("there is no band", Mulholland Dr. 2001) pretty much sums up where 40 Winks aim to go with their instrumental hip hop: meticulously chop and paste samples together, to create an atmosphere of beats and vibes which steps beyond unimaginative loops. 40 Winks hit the scene in 2002, with a whole slew of laidback beats. Eager to share their sound with the world, they released a couple of albums independently. The attention they got from this, allowed them to build with people from around the world. One of those albums, 'More Than Loops', was reissued in Japan on Swamp Records, and after that the ball kept rolling. On their first worldwide release, 'Extended Pleasure' (Escapism, 2005), they reached listeners well beyond the (instrumental) hip hop community with the song 'Melancholia'. In 2007 they released 'Sound Puzzle' on the renowned Merck label, followed in 2008 by 'The Lucid Effect' for Project: Mooncircle (2008). After a couple of years off doing solo stuff and remixes, in 2011 40 Winks is back with a double LP called 'It's The Trip'. Join 40 Winks on a road trip to anywhere. Bring your music player and tell your mum you won't be home for dinner. It's all about the trip, not the destination.

Title:All Your Bass Are Belong To Us
Label:Super Bro
Taking a turn to the left, Mssrs P&S head out of town to where beats are best, albeit backwards. Mining Afrocentric and South American beat traditions, combining them with contemporary studio trickery and dub stylings, our heroes end up not quite where they expected, which of course is normal. The starting point was the bassheavy nusounds coming from Brazil, Argentina, and Africa, with the endpoint expected to be some new and interesting rhythmic material. As usual, the process begins with some livetracking, but the result has been chopped and flipped so many times, and had a kitchensink'sworth of sounds, and chants, whistles, sirens, and other material appropriated from the World Wide Web, that no one is too sure what came from where, and how they got where they are. The A side starts with a remix by DRM, who typically selects a few elements from the original mix, and weaves an insistant rhythmic slice of dancefloor delicacy. He adds some extra guitar, and then as if from nowhere, some techno-y synth that should sound out of place, but doesn't. That is paired with a second remix, from Chancha via Circuito, who radically slows down the original, but uses most of the basic elements, plus a few tricks of his own. Auditory cough syrup indeed. The B contains three original tracks which are very different in sound and approach. 'Ayayaya' has a long mournful intro which suddenly drops into a mutant funk bass with raucous chant provided by some Pacific Islanders, toss some drunken horn choruses on top, and there you have it. 'Last Drunk At The Party? is built on a bent Afrofunk bass, with African chanting and whistles, air horn melodies, more whistles, and then yet more whistles. 'Bahia Shuffle' takes some tuff Batacuda beats, adds oodles of dubbed out keys, and floats spoken word intros from Middle Eastern 78rpm recordings for extra flavour.
Artist:Damu Fudgemunk
Title:How It Should Sound Volume 1 & 2
Label:Redefinition
Born and raised in Washington DC, Damu The Fudgemunk of the hip hop group Y Society has been building a loyal fanbase through his soulful, multi-layered beats, which he crafts using little more than an Akai MPC 2000, a huge record collection and a stack of floppy discs. With 'How It Should Sound Volume 1 & 2', Damu looks to continue to build upon his already solid discography, while simultaneously reaching new fans and keeping his core audience satisfied with new music. This release bears all the hallmarks of Damu's signature aesthetic. Crunchy drums bolster intricately woven narratives of soul-infused samples in compositions that thump and groove all at the same time. Horns appear from nowhere before dissolving sumptuously into the mix. Layers are steadily unveiled only to gradually fold back in on themselves. As with Damu's previous releases, expect this to move fast.
Artist:Toy Selectah
Title:Mex Machine
Label:Mad Decent
Toy Selectah is a certified legend in the world of Latin music. He was one of the founders of the massively influential hip hop en Espanol group Control Machete out of Monterrey, Mexico. These guys went nine-times platinum in South America. He then became a key A&R at the Universal label Machete Music and helped usher reggaeton's global takeover in the mid 2000s. For the past couple of years he's been a touring DJ, killing parties with his distinct vision of dance music, and doing big work as a producer and remixer (with Calle 13, Buraka Som Sistema, Vampire Weekend, Morrisey, Manu Chao and way more). Although he's become primarily known for cumbia, Toy's sound references his whole history and a wide swath of global bass movement. This mixup makes for about four genres that only exist in Toy's head, and each track on the 'Mex Machine' EP gives us a new angle on that world, with five original tracks, each showcasing a different side of the Toy Selectah sound. 'Sonidero Compay' is a big meeting of the minds, featuring the reggaeton king DJ Blass over a proper cumbia beat from Toy. The revs go all the way up to 150bpm territory with 'La Ravertona'. Toy teams up with Mad Decent labelmate Mumdance for 'Anni Riddim', a good example of Toy's personal hybrid land. 'Mex Machine' is a milestone release for one of the most exciting and influential artists coming out of Mexico today.

Title:The Midnite Eez
Label:All City Records
A long long time ago in a galaxy far away, that is to say pre-internet, 1995 or 1996 to be not very exact, All City co-founder Splyce found himself on one of his regular record buying sojourns to New York. Approached outside the Fat Beats store by two guys who had heard he was a DJ from out of town and were eager to spread word of their production work outside their homeland, he was given a mix tape demo of their beats. Named The Midnight Eez, from the Bronx, they were one of thousands of budding production units on Manhattan Island. The tape came only with a name and pager number, which hardly surprisingly now goes unanswered in 2011, but after relocating that same tape in a recent house move, in the spirit of musical altruism All City have decided to give it the proper vinyl release it deserves. Hopefully this release will see The Midnite Eez them get some belated but deserved shine. Tracklisting is precisely as per the original cassette, with 30 minutes of hip hop music over the two sides. Artist:Ill Boogs
Title:The Stone Garden
Label:Breakin Bread
The second single from Ill Boogs debut album. Two of the few tracks that will be available on vinyl. Made by a b-boy for b-boys and funk fans worldwide!

Side A - The Stone Garden. This could be from the "Taking Of Pelham" film. Classic cinematic sounds, underpinned with that solid "Boogs Breakbeat". This time round the breaks snaps hard, the band drop some wah wah guitar and the horns give the cinematic feel. It's a short track like many of the classic breakbeat tracks from back in the day. Proper DJ's will need two copies of this and the skills to spin back 7"s!

Side B - Iron Horse. The guitar and horns are strong on this track too, but it's the rolling beat that really makes the dancers hit the floor. It's like Boogs has employed the Incredible Bongo Band as session musicians and put them together with the JB's and some unknown prog rockers. A longer track this one so the dancers can really get into the groove!

This is a culmination of years digging for break beats, listening and dancing to mix tapes from break djs all over the world. It's an eclectic mix of popular and obscure influences from James Brown to movie soundtracks and prog rock.

But these are not drum loops your hearing..lazy producers better go back to the drawing board, all of this album is played live! The tracks are all instrumental funk and breaks tracks. All tempos and rhythms are covered by Boogs and his band. Being made by a b-boy the albums has a heavy leaning towards rhythm without being the same tired old break beats looped over and over. The only thing the tracks have in common is 'the break,' being a Bboy Boogs doesn't see the point in making a tune without one.
