BAM ! POW ?!! and other comic book type exclamations meet the news that one of the baddest brothers on the breaks and bass scene has put pen to paper and signed to Jalapeno Records.
Featurecast (Lee Mintram to his mum) has an album on the way with a serious seasoning of top vocalists including Greg Blackman (a mainstay of the album), high flying UK bluesman John Turrell, Hospital Records D&B vocalist of choice Pat Fulgoni, plus MC Alaska, C Reid and Pugz Atom dropping urban science whenever and wherever required.
Prior to signing to Jalapeno, Featurecast has released on a variety of happening labels like Bomb Strikes, Good Groove and Catskills as well as Funk Weapons in the US and the burgeoning Ghetto Funk label in the UK. One of his early productions was even snapped up by Apple to promote the IPOD ' yep those ads with the silhouettes dancing round ' that was our boy.
His DJ sets are the stuff of legend and he regularly tours North America and Australia where his brand of bass fuelled turntablism is in serious demand. Featurecast has crafted his own unique sound combining amazing pinpoint scratching whilst effortlessly cutting between Funk, Hip-Hop, Breaks, Dubstep and Drum & Bass. He's dazzled the crowds of some of the biggest festivals and venues around the globe with Canada's legendary Shambhala festival being the scene of one of his biggest triumphs.
Featurecast has shared productions duties on previous releases with legends of the bass scene like Krafty Kuts and house heavyweight James Zabiela (who credits Lee with teaching him to scratch) as well as remixing everyone from Aretha Franklin to Finley Quaye.
Basically his whole life has been building towards this album and now his time has come.
First out of the gates from the new material is 'Around The Block EP'.
A big beating, ghetto funkin' bad ass slice of bass and breaks business.
Lead track Around The Block features MC Alaska who is fresh from a hot collaboration with The Freestylers. C. Reid provides the science on two more tracks while soul man Greg Blackman rounds the ep off in style, already picking up radio plaudits from Craig Charles on his 6 Music Funk show for this track.
So after our chart topping first Allstar 45s release featuring The Dancefloor Outlaws & Coldvet, where back with another special Limited Edition 45.
First up its the turn of Ghetto Funk label manager Slim Goodgroove alongside Funk Ferret. They deliver a rather tasty slab of funk, with just the right amount of bass for their track Rockin Rollin.
On the flip DJ Soo takes on the mighty Message by Grand Master Flash and delivers something rather fresh and very unique.
The Soul Investigators are Creepin' in to your ear holes!!! "CREEPIN' part 1 & 2" is a combination of frantic hammond organ, garage-bound guitar licks, melancholic horns, crackling drums, primitive conga work and b-o-o-m-y bass...;and all of these fine ingredients are mashed together and recorded with a mono tape recorder to ensure your listening enjoyment.
The Soul Investigators are the # 1 group on scene today have been playing together for many years and have performed both live and in studio with many international stars such as: Nicole Willis, Big Joe Louis, Myron & E, Herb Johnson. But on this new single The Soul investigators are the shiniest stars and they take some time apart from their star vocalists and concentrate on messing it up in the recording studio and doing what they are best known for since they started their successful career music business.
After they already introduced themselves vinylside on V.A. BigMP16, Nynfus Corp. now starts straight into the new year with their own EP as first BigM vinyl for 2012. A smashing 12" mashup EP with club blowing breaks in four different styled tunes, to present their whole variety of amazing skillz from Budapest.
So Disco Cakes is back with yet another chart topper. This time The Dancefloor Outlaws do battle with label bosses Defkline & Red Polo. So what happens when the kings of booty breaks take on the might of the Outlaws?
Well you get an EP of epic proportions. Its packed with both there styles, the booty shacking bass and hooky vocals you have come to expect from Defkline & Red Polo matched up against the crowd pleasing disco esq funk you have come to expect from The Dancefloor Outlaws.
They are 4 cuts that will sit in your bag and be weapons in your artillery for a long time to come. Available in both vinyl and digital these bombs will shake the dance and work the crowd in true "Cakes" fashion.
Little is know about new artist WBBL, some say he was brought up on a diet of misunderstood folk music and balearic basslines, others say he is the first true star to come out of Ghetto Funk scene.
Most Ghetto Funk fans have seen the rise of WBBL through our very own weekly Scoundcloud Scour hosted by brandy drinking, squirrel impersonating, Cornishman Spinforth. He first blogged WBBL way back in the summer of 2011, it soon became apparent that this guy had a unique talent. So under the guidance and direction of Spinforth he developed a string of tracks to be given away, each bettering the last.
WBBL is an artist to come from within this emerging scene, an unknown artist, but an artist with a style and sound that has instantly got recognition from some of the scenes biggest players. A.Skillz & Featurecast both featured the same track from WBBL in there last promo mixes, a track that first featured on our Scour.
So WBBL will be the first ever breakthrough artists to release an EP in our acclaimed Artists Series, a series that has change the scene itself and made super stars of the artists it features.
But hey enough of all that, we'll let the music do the talking.

This is an artist who's fully immersed in bass culture. His first release is testament to just this, JFB delivers a gigantic EP that takes elements from his back ground in hip hop and his love of dutty bass lines, to deliver an EP that blurs the boundaries between funk and bass. Once again multiple artists combine to provide a forward thinking release of the highest standards. This time out label regulars Pimpsoul & Neon Steve provide the action alongside a label debut for the deservedly hyped Canadian Bryx.
Pimpsoul is the first to step up to the plate with the devastatingly effective Rock You. A slick use of vocal cuts and relentless rhythms form the backbone of this cleverly crafted beats banger. Also on the A side new boy Bryx comes correct with his bassline heavy Terrorist. Haunting and impossible to not move to the much-loved Canadian shows why he is so hotly tipped. Rounding things off with the AA side all to himself is the extremely talented Neon Steve. With this lush and beautifully produced slice of Drum and Bass he once again shows the depths of his talents.
Another seriously strong release from the Bombstrikes label highlighting why they lead the way in pushing things forward.
Breakin Bread drop the second single from Japanese producer Kazahaya who's been working with US MC's. Proper boom bap music on both sides, uptempo dancefloor craziness on one side, midtempo bumping gear on the flip.
Kazahaya hails from Tokyo, Japan and has been pushing his own brand of mash ups and mix CD's for the last few years. In 2007 he sent a demo to Breakin Bread and the resulting EP "Remember Hip Hop" became a bestselling hip hop release of that year. Because it was a mashup with loads of famous MC's on it Breakin Bread had to pull it from release! Since then Kaza has been getting mad props for his beats so he decided to work with some US MC's and this series of 7"s is the result.
A - Sounds of The City feat D-Stroy
One for the b-boys and b-girls. D-stroy rips it over an uptempo beat designed with the dancefloor in mind. The old school references abound but this is a fresh and forward thinking slice of proper hip hop on wax with a chorus to die for.
D-Stroy was born and raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn and he met Tony Touch at school forming a group called Touch and D-Stroy. After school he formed the legendary Arsonists and he went on to open up/host for X-zibit, Ludacris, The X-ecutioners, Papa Roach, L.L. Cool J, Busta Rhymes and Eminem to name a few. D-Stroy is currently featured on releases by Marco Polo, Q-Unique's, Pro-Sinnerz CD and The Snowgoons "Trojan Horse" LP. He is not a thug, he's an adult. He's not underground or commercial, he is HIP HOP. Perfect for working with a Japanese producer
B - Stay feat Paulie Rhyme
Kaza's beat on this one is a blessed out bit of summer goodness showing he can rock the filtered styles with the best of them. Kansas City producer / trumpeter / singer Miles Bonny is previously known for a slew of solo releases on Melting Pot Music as well as collaborations with DJ Day, Shawn Lee, Daru, Suff Daddy, etc. Wearing it's source on it's sleeve, 'Fela' is a nasty beat excursion into afro vibes with it's drums leaning back hard, chopped and filtered baritone sax, keys galore and a booming bassline - a perfect early night dancefloor inciter. On the flip, Miles deftly flips minuscule slivers of 'Mr. Sandman' into a bouncy instrumental hip hop number championed by the likes of Jazzy Jeff.
Homeboy Sandman's debut on Stones Throw is a six-track EP, as the artist describes it, "with songs dealing with content no one has ever rapped about before in the history of rap music. Unfortunately not a difficult thing to do." A past making songs about dancing the mambo and the foolishness of gunplay in rap suggest that this is no idle boast.
The machine of Tottenham's favorite record label - Imagenes Recordings keeps pushing some serious Funk & Soul stuff with the collaboration of some of the local artists of the east London surroundings who keep joining the musical family of the imprint in order to deliver some quality groovy stuff. Slynks first Artists EP for Ghetto Funk has already been getting support from some of the scenes biggest players like A.Skillz and his track Boomin even appeared on Krafty Kuts most recent promo mix. Rory Hoy delivers a well rounded EP to the Funk Weapons label. Starting off with 'La Lyrica 2011' which takes on Freddy Fresh's classic tune and updates with a few surprise twists and turns.
Next up we have 'Non-Stop' which is a solid ghetto-funk tune, complete with wonky bass and really hard hitting drums. On the Flip we start out with 'Bad Ass'; which is another ghetto-funk tune this time using a more solid sine wave bass and some up-front funky horn blasts and that awesome refrain 'bad ass is as bad ass does'.
Next up Rockmaster Rus B takes 'Bad Ass' up a few rave levels and adds in some serious wobble to make the whole thing jump. Finally we Rory drops 'Breakdown in Paris' which is a bit of a house meets breaks type tune, with a killer breakdown which will have you top rockin' deep into the night.
Record Breakin' Music is proud to team up with OM Records and FTC Skateboards for the release of J-Boogie's latest single Undercover (ft. Chrys Anthony). Like a lost Cee-Lo Green jam session, Undercover rides a turbid groove, laden with percussion and underscored by a driving bassline. A dubbed-out horn section accents Chrys Anthony's soulful croon in this late-night heater. J-Boogie has duly delivered one for the dancefloor as well as the drive home. On the B side is wonderful remix from Dj Nu-Mark of Jurrasic 5 that takes the original to another level.

More drums! Beats, breaks, rolls, all live, no loops. Breakin Bread continue their specialist Drums Series of 7"s with Mark Claydon joining Virgil Howe for 2 killer beat heavy tracks. Breaks for the future!
Breakin Bread is rooted in hip hop and all things related to hip hop so tracks with heavy drums and breakbeats are staples of the output of the label and the turntables of the clubs. The Drums Series features drummers that the Breakin Bread Crew have got to know since they launched their club night thirteen years ago.
The Claydon Break: This time round the guys take it back to more of an original 70s funk band sound. Mark Claydon underpins the track with a steady uptempo breaqk. Virgil and Nick Hirsch from The Killer Meters take the track into driving heavy deep funk rock territory. A couple of clean breaks are embellished with big build ups and multi instrumental frenzy. We were all in the studio for this one and its one of the most intense studio sessions we've ever done.
Cosmic Exotica: This is Virgil's homage to rare as hens teeth Asian Psych Disco breaks. He can imagine Finders Keepers or Now Again records re-issuing this strange but break heavy offering. Think of a Chinese Big Band dropping this in the early 70's for some Grind-House biker movie drug scene that gets a bit lary as a massive fight breaks out! Uptempo breaks for the dancefloor!
Is it Funk? Soul? Mod? RnB? Yes and no and yes again, it's a bit of everything! Sonny Rhodes' 'You Better Stop' is an alround post-deepfunk/soul crossover club dancer, good sounding for everyone. First spun on the European cross-genre funk n' soul scenes by UK DJs like Ian Wright and Fryer, now getting picked up on the UK Northern scene which is now leaving the old stompers behind and is embracing the bouncing rhythms of funk. Fryer managed to get to the tapes which amazingly were still intact, so we went to work and transferred them at half-speed for a truly explosive sound!
On the flip we have another very cool instrumental track from the same period. Labelmates "The Right Kind" whip up a funky R&B stormer with a slight moddy edge which never goes amiss for the '60s R&B and New Breed lovers. Not to be overlooked!
The Wack series continues and this time label boss S.M.O.V teams up with two superb producers to create this double wammy Wack 7" release.
Mario Lovakovic aka Umbo is an artist that is on the fast train to success. Hailing from Germany but now based in Croatia his blend of disco influenced funky breaks is being well received. Cumin Home is a fine example of his skills put back to back with some heavy S.M.O.V beats and slamming production.
On the flip we see Suonho alias Tommaso Beracardocco Italian DJ/ Producer and all round Knob twiddler, flips a cosmic space 60's theme tune into a pure breakbeat bomb, this simply can't fail to win!
Another limited 12" sampler from the Turntables On The Hudson crew, leading up to the brand new compilation CD celebrating their monthly Friday residency at NYC's Cielo club. This party platter features more of the sounds and artists that have been dropped by Nickodemus and friends on the big Funktion One sound-system over the last eight years! Things kick off with Mr.Scruff's infamous 'Pickled Spider', a ripping dubstepper of track with huge wobbly bass and delayed female vocals urging all dancers to the floor. Next up is 'Dub For Mali' by San Fran's own Pleasuremaker (of the Afrolicious crew), featuring Yacouba Diarra on vocals and Thievery Corporation's Rob Garza weighing in on some extra production. To the flip, SUMO's 'Zwakalani' could be one of the party's most heavily spun tunes since it was released five years ago, with it's booming drums, guitar licks, and uplifting vocals. Clocking in last on the 12" is 'Lovesick' by T.O.T.H. family-friend Mariella, remixed into a deep boogie-house vibe with heavy bass for the clubs by Mark De-Clive Lowe.
The next instalment in the Dubplate series sees another mysterious producer step up to the plate. Stubby Dials frankly takes liberties with Colman Brothers' brand spanking new dance floor jazz cut "Mr. DG", chopping up its trademark horns, and adding some familiar sounding beat-box, tough drums and familiar vocals over the top.
Funk Burners returns with their second release dropping more dance floor funky breaks with a party theme. First up we have 2 mixes of the cleverly familiar cut Funky Music Party. One with a beat intro and second with a scratchapella intro for our more crafty scratchtastic dj's. To top it off there?s an Acapella DJ tool included. On the flip side, 'Manifest Party' is an up-tempo party bomb and 'Party of the Century' drops the tempo a bit with a nice mid-tempo disco rap style sure to set the party off right.
First up for the new series is Germany's funky breakbeat duo and label heads, CMC&Silenta. The duo has already attracted alot of attention with their own original productions and remixes on both Manmade Records and Roca Records, receiving play and support from international DJs and radiostations like Barry Ashworth (Dub Pistols), Kissey Sellout (BBC1), Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show (BBC6), A Skillz, and Utah Saints, just to name a few.
The debut Feature Breaks EP comes packed with three original CMC & Silenta productions and one remix - they had the honor to remix Dub Pistols' "Ganja feat. Rodney P" and release it exclusively on their own label. The result is a 4-track EP ready for the club, pimped up with pumping beats, massive bass, original vocals and production, and all supported by the unrecognizable style of one of europe's hottest Beatboxers: Paul Brenning!
The three original tracks are a preview of what's to come on their forthcoming CMC& Silenta album, set to be released Spring 2012: "Summertime feat. Penny" is the one for all you summertime lovers, bringing you the perfect soundtrack for the best time of the year. "Get it on now feat. MC Fava" comes with the voice of Germanys most wanted DnB MC alongside a big bassline and straight punching drums. Feel the mixture of house and breaks! And last but not least, "Is it true feat. Richard Kim" showcases the legendary voice that some will remember from Malente's track "Funk the Rich." A big funky stomper with superb vocals. Call it Dubstep, call it DnB, or whatever, this is the new Feature Breaks! Take your time to have a listen!
Randa and The Soul Kingdom released 'The Things' swinging funky disco 12 (FSR092) on Freestyle Records early June 2011, a pretty straight ahead affair produced and guitar scratched by one of the busiest men in the music bizznizz: Lance Ferguson, the man responsible for Freestyle soul-jazz organ trio Cookin On 3 Burners, as well as The Bamboos & Lanu projects on Tru Thoughts Recordings. For this booty style remix they have taken Randa's outstanding vocal and completely reworked the track into an electro funk bomb. Toughening things up but losing non of the funk the mixes aim straight for the dancefloor.
BBP Recordings is very proud to welcome back a true legend in the evergrowing Nu-Funk scene - BadboE is ready to drop the first single from his long anticipated second album. He has teamed up with 2 heavyweighters of bassdriven Ghetto Funk Pimpsoul from the UK and Bryx, who are killing dancefloors in Canada at the moment. UK-based MC Coppa is delivering the vocal contribution to the reggae dub grooves on the A-side title track One of Those Days.
Tombee is back with his 4th release on Jack to Phono with Strike Up The Band. Hailing from Newcastle (home of the Brown) DJ, producer and film-maker Tombee often describes his sound as Folk-Hop. The definition of Folk music, if you look it up, is music handed down from generation to generation, which when considering the beats interwoven and flipped here, kinda makes sense...
This time Tombee teams up with Mr Konfuze & Lunatic, Tom Eno and Winter North Atlantic to create one eclectic download and remix package! From a dancefloor friendly party vibe to the ambiance of Winter North Atlantic.

After years of huge success with solid quality releases - yet mostly mashups and remixes for respected labels and musicians of the funky breaks scene - CMC&Silenta now take the next step with their latest tune "Funky Town". This funky good mood summer track is the first release of their forthcoming album. It can be understood as an indicator of what you can further expect to be released by the duo on CMC's label Roca Records.
"Funky town" was made for all you guys out there who love to shake their butts to soulful, honest and pure funk music. Contrary to previous tracks they recorded everything live, and invited Cotonou (Benin)-based Rapstar Penny to join them. Pimped up with funky guitars and Bongos, accompanied with this recognisable whistle, this tune moves masses whenever it starts to play. To round up the release of this cracker, CMC&Silenta won Nick Thayer for an amazing ghettofunk anthem, Slynk repacked the track with a brass hook to bring back the late 60s funk feeling. The last remix on this 12 inch is a nice afro beat remix by Zamali, so you've got something for everyone on this Roca's first Single Release of CMC&Silenta. Don't think about it, grab a copy, it's a must have.
Hailing from Sydney, Australia: DJ, producer and beat maker Omegaman has laid down an infectious groove with his new ass wigglin? track "Skankin' Riddim". Proudly presented by Super Hi-Fi Recordings, it's a cheeky salute to old skool Ska with a straight up breakbeat, dubby bassline, majestic horns courtesy of Scotty Sax, and vocal samples from reggae legend Horseman. The release also features an all-star lineup of remix artists.
The vinyl release will include Omegaman, Thomas Blondet, Stickybuds, and Busta. The digital release adds two more remixes to the stellar roster courtesy of All Good Funk Alliance and Fretless. Styles range from straight up ska with big beats, lounge core head-nodders, to breakbeat stompers with some seriously womping bass action - this release covers all bases with a nice variation of genres.
Following hot on the heels of the outstanding Pimpsoul ep, Bombstrikes once again maintain their scene leading formula. This time out it's the turn of Nick Thayer to deliver the dancefloor goodies. In a style very much his own, Nick raises the bar even higher with this incredibly strong three-track ep.
There is no messing about on this EP "Do You Want more" on the A side hits hard. With vocal hooks and guitars kicking the track off in fine style before the almighty lead synth hits with guaranteed head nodding approval. For our money this is an absolute monster. Over on the flip, first up is "Rhythm Method" which brings Nick's trademark swing and movement to the proceedings. Vocals play perfectly with the synth and horn riffs to ensure plenty of dancefloor ass shaking will follow. Rounding things off nicely is the bass heavy groover "Ladies Love Cool Jams" which is so devastatingly executed it is bound to hit the right spots.
BBP Recordings is back harder than ever with pure DJ dynamite from the absolute elite producers in the Nu Funk/Ghetto Funk scene. DJ Prosper (BigM, BBP), BadboE (Good Groove, Bombstrikes, BBP), Breakbeat Junkie (Good Groove, Manmade), DJP (Good Groove, Bureau 45) and Audited Beats (Good Groove, Punchout) all united to mashup, chop up and cut up some of best funky joints of all time into 4 mindblowing tracks under the codename Freak Hop!
The sample source on this release is about a mile long and the grooves and beats are as fresh as can be which makes this a truly timeless record. From oldskool funk to soulful grooves and hip hop - its all in here mixed in a way you've never heard before.
